I am currently a Casey Grammar student and I would like to share my honest opinion. If you're considering about attending this school or just curious, then buckle up because I will reveal everything!
Before coming I thought this school should be excellent and top tier but when I came I realized that it not what you think. I mean it's the best in the area. However, if you were to compare it with other private schools in Melbourne like MLC, PLC, Melbourne Grammar, Huntingtower, Haileybury, Scotch College, I could name more, then it's absolutely not as good as those schools. You might be wondering, well the schools that I named cost more than Casey, and you are right. Nonetheless, I truly think that Casey could be a better place academically and socially.
When I came here as a new student, there were people who were curious about me and asked me questions. After that they just kicked me out and treated me differently. I felt like I didn't belong even though I did absolutely nothing at all. That is just one example. Some students spend their lunch and recess to talk behind each others backs and that's all they do. I mean not 100% of the time but the majority of it. I also have to admit that some students aspire to do brilliant things in the future, but from what I've seen most students just don't care as much.
The students here often break the school rules. Like never tucking in their shirts, constantly not keeping their hair up, going into classrooms to have lunch when they are not allowed to even when it's a beautiful day, using phones in class, talking back at teachers, etc....
I do understanding that maybe sometimes then it can be acceptable but regularly starts to become an issue.
The school doesn't even have a proper canteen. On the bright side, then the classrooms are pretty clean and organized. I wished that the school offers at least a canteen for junior and senior school considering that it's private.
Now of course there are also positives like teachers here actually care for a student's wellbeing. Not every private school deeply cares for the student's mental health like Casey does. If we were to look at the teachers than I would say that it just depends on which teacher you have. Some teachers just let the students do crazy things in class instead of their work. I find that unbelievable.
Another positive is that the school often has special trips for the students. Like going to France for 10 days, or going on an outdoor camp. That camp was painful, traumatic, and horrifying but I've gained a lot of experience. The school also isn't sportive. So if you're a very competitive and sporty person then there could be better options than this school.
Overall, I don't really recommend Casey Grammar unless if you have no other choice. It's still better than some schools in the state. The worst part for me was the education and most students. On the other hand, the bright side is that they care for your mental health. Please chose wisely because Casey Grammar is just your average local school but not worth it for your academics and your network.
Great experience but it was all ruined by some teacher who's belt size was the equator and was taller horizontally than vertically it looked like it wanted to eat me
the people are great i’m in year 10 and have made strong connections with lots of people in my year level. there are good opportunities, nice camps, but the teachers here are very strict. you will have to sit out of activities and excursions if you are wearing the wrong unifrom such as socks or jewlery or your hair is down. some of the rules are unfair on students and don’t matter. small things don’t effect our learning or anyone else, the teachers yell at you and say hurtful things but you can’t talk back otherwise you will have the consequences. i’ve never felt comfortable to talk to a teacher about anything personal no matter how many times they say we can because i’ve seen their true colours. i’ve cried from teachers words and actions before. i continue going to this school because of the friends i’ve made and i feel i fit in. this school has harsh rules and harsh teachers that effect my mental health when attending.
