My experience at CHS as a student

I have had majority of my time here be negative. A lot of the students are rude and disrespectful and treat others like dirt. Though there are some great teachers, there are a lot of them who either don’t care, or are under educated.

The bathrooms (specifically the boys) are disgusting. The punishments here don’t work in the slightest and only making students worse behaviour wise. Bullying is treated like a joke.

I feel bad for the staff, teachers and students here who want to make the school a better place because the majority ruin their reputation.

Worst school I've ever encountered.

Cronulla High School has become worse over the course of the last 10 or so years. I'm not saying all of the teachers are bad, but as a past student myself, I can confidently say that a great handful genuinely don't care about their students, only their jobs. For starters, I was once granted access (by a substitute) to view my indicators on the online roll system. I will admit I wasn't supposed to see that to begin with, but when I saw "ASD" and "ADHD" put down in the disabilities(?) section of my information, I was taken aback. They have not contacted my family or me to confirm this information; we've concluded that they have just assumed my mental disabilities without informing any relevant parties.

On top of this, I only found out that in year 11, I've needed provisions for exams (small group, rest breaks, etc) since year 8, if not, year 7. During my time up until year 11, the learning support staff had gone through 2-3 head teachers before one teacher pulled me aside and told me I needed special provisions. I don't expect Cronulla High School to cater to every student individually at a time, but for the learning support staff to take this long to realise that a student needing extra provisions for exams is not acceptable in my standard.

I also feel like teachers don't even look at the information that each student has in their records. Again, I don't expect teachers to cater to every specific student, but a glance and helping a student in a way that they understand would barely suffice.

Also, Cronulla High School doesn't care for its students' mental health as much as it should. Example - there is a new counsellor every day, and/or one counsellor per day, per week. A student should not have to wait a full week, if not multiple weeks, to see a specific counsellor they are comfortable talking to. As someone with past mental issues, I am not comfortable with telling new people my problems. It would be beneficial if one counsellor works 5 days per week, at the very least 2 counsellors, if not manageable with one.

Another issue includes the students' behaviour and receiving harassment from younger years. My friend group and I have been harassed by year 7's to year 9's for 2 years, and when telling a teacher about such harassment, we have basically been told to deal with it. To speak informally, no joke, I have told a deputy principal about my issues, and she looked me dead in the eyes and said, and I quote: "They are only year 7's, they'll find their place eventually, they're only new".

I should not have to face this level of incompetence from a teacher, let alone a deputy principal. If a student is facing bullying and/or harassment and tells you about it, surely you wouldn't brush it off as the bully's/harassers just "finding their way in the school". Especially when an older student, such as someone from year 11 or 12, is telling you.

Though I commend the teachers who listened to me and understood my troubles, even though they couldn't do much about it. I shouldn't have to complain to those teachers if the deputy staff weren't so incompetent and lazy. I'm not saying this for all executive staff, but I am not going to name specific people.

Cronulla High School also cares for the reputation and grades of their students. In year 12 we have been told that we should use our free time to study, and in the way they have expressed this is basically saying we should use all the free time we have to go towards our studies for exams. That means school holidays are no longer school holidays and are instead just considered extra school weeks, but at home. They don't even encourage students to take at least a week off from studying. All they care about is how great the school's reputation is for their education. I don't know how many times the head teacher of English pulled my English standard cohort out of class to tell us how bad our grades are. Especially during the time we are supposed to be in class, studying.

I don't think I can count the multiple times the school has wasted more of my time complaining about my grades instead of wasting my time towards studying and improving my grades. To speak informally, my grades suffered because of my reduced time in class.

Cronulla High School may seem to encourage extracurriculars and other activities, but in reality, they encourage you to take time off from those extracurriculars to study for exams.

I am concluding this review. I think I have had a better time writing this essay of review, stating how much Cronulla High School is a hell hole, than actually being in Cronulla High School.

Thank you, Cronulla, for nothing.

My little baby egglings go to school

I sent my beautiful batch of 23 little egglings to school here and all of them were treated incrediby. They taught them about the wonderful science of rocks. Little Johnny loved it and so did Sarah. One complaint though would be that they made my kids learn and seemed to care about education instead of agriculture. Overall eggsellent

Not a good school at all

this is a really awful school with most of the teachers being selfish and only thinking of themselves and other staff while viewing the students as robots excluding about 5-10 of the good teachers.

CHS Review

As a student at CHS this school has made me scared to ask for help with no teacher there to help you. With most teachers saying how we are going to all fail in life if we don't do what they want us to do which is not even related in the test at all, which is causing more and more fails. And as we fail more they will threaten us to repeat or get suspend for failing a test that we haven't even learned in class time. Making us lose trust with all teachers even the good ones. There is no support from the school which makes students more scared and depressed each day and makes us trust nobody.

Complaint to the school

As of me being a student at CHS I am not happy
They care more about uniforms than more than education and the lack of teachers in subjects is affecting my grades how about instead of building a new block employ some teachers I am sick of having subs instead of having a music teacher for timber
The venue is fine but there are too many eshays trying to act like they are from out west when we are in the shire as well as the rooms are run down please fix the school

Why is this a school?

Look, the school itself is okay. The support staff are absolutely lovely but a lot of the students and teachers aren't. You will get treated absolutely horrendously if you aren't a cic-het white person by the majority of the student population. And the education is average.

Do not go to CHS

As a student here, CHS is one of the worst schools in the shire. They honestly care more about uniform and presentation then they do education, they are understaffed and teachers are not useful.
School camps and trips are unorganised and overall the students stay in disgusting accomodation.
School renovations are highly inconvenient and disrupt learning.
DO NOT GO TO THIS SCHOOL!!!

Average school

The school itself is pretty average with over 50% of the classrooms not having air-con. For 30+ degree days students can get heat exhaustion and pass out.. not a good look for the school. The students aren’t always the nicest but the teachers I can say are very nice most of the time.

It's great, but the people aren't

The school itself is great, but it's the people that go there that are the worst
If you're thinking of sending your child to Cronulla high school or even thinking of starting work there, please be aware of how bad the students can be
