Pretty average school (Please read this review)

Okay, so I’m an alumni from Dorset Primary School and I graduated in 2024. So starting off, this school was pretty nice at the start. Staff were good at first. Students were nice. But, over the years the staff slowly turn more harsh towards the students. They introduced wellbeing activities and picnics but they to be completely honest was just to make the school look picture perfect on Facebook.
In recent years 2023, the principal went on a rampage complaining about student’s books and messy handwriting. Checking to see if the student’s had doodled or not but this was serious. If the student’s exercise books had doodles then they would have to spend recess or lunch covering them. It might not seem that bad but for the students, the principal yelled at us. Some students even cried about it.
Yet the school still consistently for some reason keeps getting positive reviews by parents. If you are a parent wanting to enrol your child at this school (Dorset Primary School) try and reconsider as I will bring up something dark that happened in 2024.
So, trying to make this appropriate to post but something happened to several students and a teacher. Basically a student was kind of stalking some students (plus more stuff I can’t really say) at school and this one specific teacher wasn’t doing much to help even though the students getting stalked were complaining. Ended up being very chaotic. Now, I know the school didn’t confirm that it happened but it did happen.
Other things to note, this has been a pattern but there have been multiple teachers leaving the school in recent years, I can’t necessarily confirm my suspicions but my guess is that the environment was too toxic. Many teachers leaving after a couple years.
The school needs a lot of fundraisers. So every end of term there is a disco and jr costs $2. Before it included a juice box and chocolate but now it’s just to ‘attend the disco’ and ‘go in free dress’. Basically a scam because each individual student pays 8 dollars in total per year for discos but if you add that up. 524 students x 8 is $4192. Plus there are more fundraisers
Now not all of this is negative. There are a few fun school events like Market day where the year 5/6s set up stalls to sell stuff for the whole school to raise money for their graduation. There is bat tennis tournament in Year 5/6 where you compete against people playing bat tennis.
Overall my experience as a student who went there from foundation (prep) to year 6 was pretty mediocre. The first few years are great but then when you get older and wiser you realise that the school is not the most exciting school. Please read this thoroughly because parents at this school review bomb it as an excellent school when to be exact it’s an average school. Parents may think that Dorset Primary School is sensational but students have different views. Some people may love Dorset while others don’t because there are slightly subtle favouritism.
