About GGHS

The school is alright but beware of racist, homophobia and ableist people because 90% of the students are like that but 10% of them are not like that but I’ll give it 7.5/10 base on my experience.
P.S - it depends how you survive in the school

The Big Picture

It’s no surprise that Golden Grove High School has raved headlines across Australia, (and even the internationally), in recent times. Acknowledging what has happened is very important for students, staff, and even parents to regroup and gain better insight into how we can prevent all forms of bullying, harassment and discrimination from continuing in the future. It’s everybody’s responsibility to make our schools a safe and relaxing place to be able to learn academically and socially.

GGHS is, however, by far not the first or the last school to have these incidents, as many schools in the Adelaide metropolitan region have these same consequential problems. Therefore, I cannot completely bring the grading of this school down, as there has been intervention strategies to manage these problems. The cultural problems which have been noted at GGHS, are mainly down to the behaviour of the students attending.

What is saddening, is that this is what it had to come to for our school to have more community. Prior to these incidents, we had usually only one or two whole school assemblies, (not including photo day). It has been excellent to see Mr Kuss show his face more often and grace us with his profound way with words, but it is disappointing that it had to come to this.

The students at the school are mixed and diverse, and whilst I haven’t experienced any bullying, my understanding is that many others do. I wouldn’t say that bullying is the worst at our school, usually we’re pretty inclusive and there are only some isolated incidents, however it is clear that incidents and bullying have increased recently. I would attribute many of these problems to the mental health and well-being of our students, rather than problems with the teachers. The good news is, that our school does have some excellent programs in place to support students who might have some behavioural issues, marginalised groups, attendance issues, etc, such as the ice hockey team (for those struggling to find stability in classes), the Umbrella Club, (celebrating the LGBTQIA+ community), FLO, (flexible learning options), CAFFLO, (FLO cafe, providing opportunities for FLO students to be independent and self-sufficient), and a plethora of clubs.

To really make our school a better community, though, we really need to be able to embrace everyone. Yes, there will still be bullying and harassment and discrimination, it cannot all be resolved. But we can try to build more community by simply making our school environment more relaxing, focussed on all personal development, not just academically, and really tuning into each other and being able to simply listen and try to be more sympathetic with one another. We already have some great programs in place, but I wonder if we can get some more and raise further awareness about the ones that we have currently.

The education here is, by far, some of the very best, particularly for a government school. Very few get the marks from high school to be able to hold some of the most elite jobs in the world, and whilst I believe that elitism is very different to healthy competition, I am proud to say that many of our students have been accepted into internationally recognised institutes of all career areas due to the flexibility and relative content and subjects with outstanding teachers who are actually able to teach effectively, provided the class is focused and free of disruptions.

Golden Grove High School is a great school that definitely needs some careful consideration in some areas, but can quickly revitalise the school culture by implementing measure to help all students thrive, not just academically, but in their personal development as well, and to convey more messages that students should be focussing on their best, not the best.

Take it from me as a highly engaged student, the character of a person is worth celebrating more than their abilities, and students will, without a doubt, do exceedingly better if this is celebrated more than their academic prowess.

phone ban fucking sucks

why tf do we need to have these stupid phone pouches now, they aren't gonna stop bulling and make people concentrate its just gonna make everything worse, for example I usually sit happily alone in the hub during recess and lunch playing games on my phone or talking to my literal only friend who foes to another school, but now I cant do any of that and I'm just gonna sit there staring at the wall, taking our phones isn't gonna make people become friends it's gonna cause bulling and vandalism because everyone will be bored out of their minds and out of that boredom they're gonna do dumb shut like start fights and vandalism.

GGHS Review

This school has been great for 2 of my kids and not so great for the other 2. It's like every average high school in Australia, fights vaping etc. Good school teachers are nice and encouraging, just depends if your kids mix with the wrong crowd
