School as a whole

Let's be honest

First of this school has a few things it's really good at, Aboriginal education here is amazing, if you want to go into a trade or the catering industry this school has many opportunities, it's mental health services are better than most but sometimes thearopists have personally had to tell the school to treat the kids better, but it has the right resources, the staff here are alright with some standouts (luv Mr leaudais and Mrs Pope) but in all honesty in every other department this school kind of flops, it doesn't have enough laptops so the phone ban will be a rough transition, most of the mathematics books are destroyed, the pe faculty's equipment is faulty but they keep upgrading the floors of the playing areas when unneeded, they have serious bullying problems to the extremes of sexual harrassment and physical violence only the prior the school caring about unless "proven" which means a teacher that's respected by the other teachers have to see it, another thing there seems to be alot of teacher distrust and clear groups even within faculty's, currently the boys bathrooms are unavailable because one if being upgraded while the other got damaged (brand new btw), the teachers lose there cool alot of the time and it seems to only affect there social groups and not actual punishments (one expection I learnt from a relative because the teacher was sexest twice). The staff are all nice peaple thought the principal should really not have the power they have and just be a teacher because he has little inforcement. All the teachers aren't to strict thought many just want to get though the day unless your in higher classes(which get so much work it's not funny). Overall Gorokan high school is a good school to go to if you want to go into food and Bev or a trade or if you need extra surrport (just maybe get a carer from outside the school)

The canteen is solid food average and cheap

You probably won’t die.

I am a student here and it’s pretty bad. Not as bad as Northlakes though. I am in the selective stream of the school so my experiences in the educational sector may not be as bad as others. There are plenty of of good teachers, but plenty of not so good. The eshay count at this school is way too high. And I think the school would benefit greatly if we lowered the count. The bathrooms are horrible. There’s no soap, no locks (besides that one toilet everyone fights for), the vaping is out of control, too many toilet dwellers (this is what the people that hangout in the toilet and vape or just stand there and be threatening are called by gorokan high schoolers and teachers) and frankly a visit to the bathroom is terrifying on too many levels. Also the uniform. I understand the rules about big brands on jumpers and non school shirts and I guess it’s semi reasonable to say no black clothing, but like why can’t we wear navy tights?! We’re allowed to wear navy trackies, why not the same for tights? I once got told by a teacher, “they’re underwear”. Like no they are not, stockings sure, but not tights. On a better note Mr Buxton is a great year advisor. Thanks for so many random excursions, it was greatly appreciated. So if your looking for a high school to send your child to please don’t please Northlakes or wadalba, they’re worse. Don’t choose saint Bridget’s either. Gorokans ok. But I’d go for maybe saint peters or something. And if you can, Gosford. NOT WYONG. Unless you want to die. But other than that there’s not many good high schools on this end of the coast. And America is not a better option. You’d be shot dead in a week.

Could be worse I guess

All round bad school. It had some upsides but had many problems. It’s known up and down the coast for its fights and how the teachers do very little to stop them. The teachers in most departments (excluding science) seem to not care about their senior’s education. During COVID 19 teachers were unreachable form weeks on end and never checked in on students.

The bad eggs make it hard to appreciate the good ones

I am a year 12 at this school. This school may have it's upsides, but it's downsides are incredibly hard to ignore.
The students are rude, cruel, antagonistic, and loud. Some examples of this:
-Students snuck into the school at night, graffitied with spray paint and large splatters of paint, and entirely trashed the very expensive industrial kitchen used by hospitality students.
- A feminine gay student was attacked and then chased by a large number of students simply for being a feminine gay guy.
- The toilets are frequently trashed, which forces the school to lock them during class time. Even with this, stalls are broken, toilet seats shattered, locks broken, soap wasted, etc.
Many teachers also do not help this matter, or seemingly are not fit to teach teenagers. Examples:
- I have tics from my anxiety and ADHD, which are uncontrollable movements. Very similar to Tourette's, including the vocal, and often explicit, tics. I have no control over this, and teachers have been told repeatedly. However, I would still get detentions, get openly told off, even while having uncontrollable tic attacks that make it hard to breathe.
-The school counselor told my friend that she was not depressed about her parents splitting up, and she was just on her period.
- teachers often assign highly sensitive content without warning. including videos with piles of bodies from the holocaust, pictures of people jumping from the twin towers, a pornographic short story featuring two sisters who have had their bodies turned into musical instruments, where the sisters "play" eachother in front of a large audience, and more.
There are many many more issues but I am tired and annoyed, so I will end it here.
