A School That Cares More About Results Than Students
This school has been one of the most upsetting and frustrating experiences my family has ever gone through. Haileybury College completely failed my son when he was struggling and needed support. Instead of helping him, encouraging him, or working with him through a difficult time, they made him feel like a burden.
It became painfully clear to us that this school cares more about grades, rankings, and its reputation than the wellbeing of its students. If your child is not performing at the level they want, don't expect understanding or compassion. My son was made to feel like he wasn't wanted there simply because he was struggling academically. To make matters worse, one of my son's friends was repeatedly pressured to see a counsellor after she clearly said no multiple times. She was then told she could be suspended if she refused. No student should feel forced into something after repeatedly expressing that they are uncomfortable. The pressure this school puts on students is unbelievable. We were effectively told that if my son wanted to stay, he would need to move to unscored VCE, and it felt as though doing scored VCE was no longer an option. Instead of supporting students to succeed, they seem more interested in removing students who may affect their academic results. This experience has caused enormous stress for our family and had a significant impact on my son's confidence and wellbeing. No parent should have to watch their child go through that. I strongly recommend that parents look elsewhere before considering Haileybury College. There are many schools that genuinely care about their students as people, not just as statistics. Based on our experience, I would not recommend Haileybury College to anyone.
