Kelvin Grove State College

I think in some ways the school is a victim of its own success. The teachers are fantastic and the curriculum is actually quite impressive, however due to the sheer size I think there is the potential for students to be exposed to some extremely negative peer influence. Based on the stories my daughter has shared with me, there was quite a large amount of vicious bullying, hyper sexualisation, racism and illicit substance use happening from around Year 7 (12 & 13 year olds!!). To their credit, the school did try to address these issues when it came to their attention, however there are so many students that many incidents go unnoticed. Some examples: - groups of boys drawing swaztika symbols under their shorts & doing nazi salutes - girls sharing other girls nude photos - many many many students using the "n" word when describing ethnic students - students arranging fights - groups of students threatening solitary students - students planning stealing sprees at the shops - certain kids becoming known "dealers" (of drugs) in early highschool grades I don't know what the answer is to these issues, however I know that as a parent I felt somewhat stressed about the potential influence this could have on my daughter. She keeps in touch with some friends that are still there, and things seem worse than when she left only last year. It's honestly sad to see because the curriculum is actually fantastic.

Gone here for a while now, in my final year and have enjoyed most of my time there
