Honest review

As visiting students from Japan, we came to this Australian school expecting to learn, connect, and experience a different culture. Instead, what we experienced was nothing short of disrespectful and disappointing.

From the first day, we were made to feel unwelcome. No teachers or students greeted us, no one explained what was happening, and no effort was made to include us. We were told we would be joining classes to experience Australian education, but there were barely any lessons at all. In one class, we were simply told to color — even though the subject had nothing to do with art. It felt like the school had no plan or interest in giving us a meaningful experience.

The attitude of many students was even worse. We were laughed at, mocked, and treated unfairly because we were foreigners. This wasn’t limited to us — even the international students who attend this school regularly experience the same kind of discrimination. What’s worse is that some teachers showed rude behavior too, with no manners or respect, as if our presence was an inconvenience.

In Japan, when we welcome guest students, we treat them with kindness and care. Teachers and students work hard to make visitors feel comfortable and respected. Sadly, we received the opposite treatment here.

This school clearly lacks basic cultural awareness, professionalism, and respect for diversity. If this is how they represent Australian education, it sends a terrible message to international students. I sincerely hope this school reflects on its behavior and learns how to properly welcome and respect guests in the future — because what we experienced was unacceptable.

Poor employee care and culture

So bad that they even disabled reviews on their google listing. Uncaring and god-fearing, they only focus on outdated catholic values and rejects anybody that doesn't fit into their view of what a person should be. Only interested in revenue raising, shoving cringe bible verses down one's throat and escaping enforcement from Fair Work Australia and the likes.

Turning the ship

All schools have problems however LHC is generally a very caring community. The school has had its ups and downs, however the new principal is working hard to improve standards and work to change the culture.

Poor leadership, bullying staff & students

I have had 3 daughters go through Lourdes Hill (one currently there). Unfortunately, the leadership and ethos has deteriorated significantly in the last few years. They are not affiliated with BCE so no accountability - therein lies the problem. Poor leadership, pedagogy, curriculum and no behaviour management (unless screaming or personal insults). Teachers yelling at students, banging aggressively on blackboards, one yelled in my daughter's face, personal insults at students in front of the class to humiliate etc. The students learn the bullying of the teachers. The current principal has no idea, elitist & came from MBGC. Lots of bullying at the school that is not addressed. No differentiation of subjects, no support. However, it has a lovely view and puts on nice mother's day luncheons.

My experience

Middle school is hard, with pretty average to below average teachers. Some want you to succeed others simply do not care. High school teachers however, are fantastic. They are teachers who understand the work and want you to understand it.

Pretty good school. New principal is really good.

I’m a student I like it. It is definitely better worth the new principle. Most of the girls are lovely. The teachers are caring a lot more with the new principal.
