There are definitely positives - the facilities are excellent, there are some kind and dedicated teachers and staff, and there are good opportunities for students. However, the overall sense of community and connection has changed considerably over the years.
Since COVID, and particularly over the past few years, the school has increasingly felt very “closed gate”. There is much less of a feeling that parents are welcomed and encouraged to be part of the school community. It can feel like the expectation is simply to drop your children at the gate and leave, rather than parents being genuinely included in school life.
There has also been a lot of staff change and turnover. While the teachers we've encountered have generally been kind and caring, the lack of continuity can make the school feel less personal. There doesn't always seem to be the same depth of familiarity with individual students and families that we experienced in earlier years.
After seven years, the difference is noticeable. NKPS has plenty of strengths, but I think prospective families should be aware that the sense of community, parent engagement and continuity of staff may not be what they expect from the school's positive presentation.
