My Memories as one of the Original Students

It Seems no one has posted a review here!

Well, I was a student there from 1970. The very first year NMPS opened. I started in Grade 3 and the school only went to Grade 4.

The place was pretty wild back then. The school was far from finished to the point it still had building teams all over the place including the classrooms. Lawns were not planted, car wrecks were still in the bush on school grounds, including one that Grade 1 & 2 students soon discovered had a dead body in it (a suicide apparently - it had been there since late 69'). In 1972 we were evacuated as a bushfire threatened the school. In 1973 there was an horrific crash as a car rolled over taking the Wellinton Rd/ Gordon Rd corner too fast. It landed in the middle of the bottom oval, a mother and 2 kids got out but they weren't NMPS kids. We students got off class to remove the tiny bits of smashed glass of the lawn., Cool! We used to build underground cubbies in the sand (there being none then not much grass at first). Besides underground cubbies were way more fun.

Back then the teachers were great and so were the kids. We all did our best, both students and staff. I have fond memories of the place. NMPS has certainly gone from strength to strength, looking at it now. It seems to be a well-resourced and very impressive Primary School.

The original netball court is still there. That bitumen was our play area and the bush and sand all around it was where we built our cubbies. I am so pleased they retained a small bush area in the front western corner adjacent to Alexander Drive. With Two Netball Courts, 2 ovals and maybe three times the buildings we had all nestled in leafy mature gardens, NMPS looks simply wonderful.

I would recommend it! It gave me a solid grounding in education. I went on to become a lawyer and now run various enterprises but mostly relax. I am 64 years old.

cheers
Jonathan
