Your child doesn’t matter

I attended this school from 2013-2018 and the experience left me feeling left out and traumatised.
In my first year, the whole class was almost punished for being bullies to one kid despite only a few of us being actual culprits. It took me going to the principal in tears claiming my innocence for the student to be asked which kids were bothering him. Something that should’ve been done before accusing the whole class.
Next came the double standards regarding makeup. I was sent to the bathrooms to wash off some lip balm while the girl next to me was dolled up like she was about to go clubbing.
Finally, how they handle students getting into fights was diabolical. Just because a child requires help in education should not give them a free pass when it comes to bullying.
A girl who I won’t mention by name was always targeting me and whenever I fought back, I got in trouble for “picking on a special needs kid” despite being the one who was defending myself.
This same student while we’re talking about her, brought a knife to school to “cut up apples” and when I told teachers, she was most likely suspended for a day.

Next was the teachers. Some were nice, others were straight up ex mean girls.
I had a home economics teacher who was a strict vegan, tell my friend off for having “dead animal flesh” in his sandwich and proceeded to throw it away. I know the school is Seventh Day Adventist but even this was going too far.
On a seperate incident, I did poorly in a maths assignment and was given a chance to resubmit. Normally in these situations, the highest you can receive is a C+, after I resubmitted, I was given a D. Basically I was failed twice on the same assignment.

Lastly, the drama program in this school was a joke. Their musicals weren’t properly researched before choosing scripts. One year, we did a play that was designed for 6 actors which we had to somehow split up across 20 students. Another year, the principal opened the musical performance by stating they encouraged students to explore other cultures. Then afterwards, retreated by saying that what we did was a representation and not what we believed in. The play was Mulan…
It didn’t help that the same people got the lead roles every year. It wasn’t fair to other students who showed up every week (like me)
I suspect it was something to do with the Pastor of the church but that’s just me.

Lastly, I want to talk about the sport program and how unprepared they are for future growth.
The only sport I was interested in was Track And Field, I’m pretty sure it was the only sport that didn’t have tryouts for extracurricular events like SACSA etc. because i remember seeing notices for every other sport like Cricket, Soccer, Football etc. but they just assumed certain students were good at running fast.
As for how they’ve planned for the school to grow, having enough classrooms is one thing. A common room for year 12 students is another…
My class had a combined number of about 30+ students who were confined to a small common room (about 15m by 20m.) It was small with just us in there, I can only imagine what they’ll come up with when their larger classes move up (when I left, there was 3 home groups of year 7 students which was a total of about 50 students.)

They say your child matters… I beg to differ.

straight up bad school

A lot of the people at the school arent very nice and sometimes when I go to the bathroom there’s always thing one girl in there vaping but the smoke detectors broken and she never gets caught. Some of the teachers have been really bad too and don’t help much with work and stuff and they make all the work so boring and I can’t listen to what they’re saying because it’s so boring. I saw a girl getting physically bullied one time and the principal walked right past them and he looked right at them and then looked away like he saw nothing happening. Also the toilets are disgusting in the boys toilets two guys were trying to pee at each other and in the girls toilets the hand dryers have been broken for ages and there’s always water all over the ground and they don’t empty out the sanitary bins and someone stuck a pad to the lid of one inside and it’s been there for almost a term now.
