Disappointment

As a past school captain and a student who has been part of this school community since kindergarten, there is much to say about the decline in academic, community, religious, and foundational values over the years.

Throughout my time at this school, I have seen peers and past students who have excelled academically, athletically, and in co-curricular activities. Yet much of the success of students has come not from teaching or support, but from students being forced to self-learn content. In terms of education, only a few select of teachers show genuine passion for teaching, sharing their knowledge with students, and consistently support them on their academic path.

However many other staff members show that greedily comfort, leisure, self-care, favouritism take priority over their responsibility to teach. In some cases, teaching methods are extremely poor that students are left with no choice but to teach themselves — or not learn entirely. Ironically, the teachers who do show genuine passion often remain at the school for only a year, before seeking professional growth elsewhere and having the school to find a poor replacement.

From a student perspective, there have been times where students have achieved vast amounts of academic or other co-curricular success in one year, only to decline in the following years due to a lack of support, guidance, and encouragement from their teachers and peers.

While I aim to remain unbiased, it is impossible to ignore the presence of bias among teachers, staff, and students alike. Truthfully, from first-hand experience, there is a disturbingly high level of favoritism within the school. This favoritism has negatively affected student morale, academic confidence, and overall fairness. Moreover, there is undeniable racial prejudice running through the school, where students are judged more harshly, supported less, and held to completely different standards, while others get away with shit simply because they fit a standard.

What makes this even more hypocritical is that this is meant to be a Christian school, yet there is no genuine Christian development nor meaningful personal development happening at all. Christianity, or rather "Anglican" feels more like a label slapped onto the school’s name than something actually practiced or represented by leadership and staff. Instead of fostering growth, faith, or moral grounding, the environment feels empty, performative, and disconnected from the very principles the school claims to be.

Since the change in principal, the school has shifted from being an environment that—however imperfectly—encouraged self-growth and recognized achievement, to one where student voices feel unheard, effort goes unnoticed, and standards appear increasingly inconsistent. Overall, the school’s decline is not the result of one individual or isolated issue, but rather a systemic failure to uphold the values it claims to represent.
