Positives-
Our selection criteria was which school was easiest and most fun and A. said Boscos. The rooms, grounds and gardens were good and include a big undercover area and a library which they renovated this year. Generally seemed a good combination of small friendly school and positive religious culture, pleasant teaching style and easy for parents. Her skills improved. Students results are directly related to how the teachers teach. So the teachers seem reasonable. We were able to help when the teachers noted they needed some help. One teacher managed to include some typing when I mentioned that they had started typing on Roblox. The frequent teacher changes started to look usual which could provide some variety of experience.
Negatives-
Australian schools are an unavoidable interaction with communicable diseases, lice(expect heads up lice messages each semester), covid etc and thoughtless stupidity and aggressive and coercive behaviour in the community. All the sickness from school, often towards the end of each semester which messed up holidays, is the worst aspect about which they do little. It was obvious how limited teachers are in helping each student and other factors that can effect the experience at school. e.g’s those with training in the grunge cultures that australian schools host continued to show good performance boosts. The positive religious style seemed to decrease the usual violence aggression coercion spectrum. The usual school dumbing down was initially extreme and the behaviour styles coming home from other children’s behaviour at school were problematic. Expect a lesser smattering of emotional abuse and coercive control from students, admin and teachers than in the public system e.g’s. A classic bullying early on. The teacher appeared oblivious to simple emotional and then physical abuse patterns from other children. There was even an example of a totally out of place teacher going off emotionally when A. happened to cry when reaching school after being away with a cold for a few days. As A. really loves Boscos and the parent had a cold it was that sort of lack of emotional compassion or understanding which can be a typical low standard at schools in the current highly technical, conformist, low rights environment. Some examples of teachers showing rudimentary negotiation and communication abilities with students and parents. An example of admin restricting educational access for A. because of their own contrary petty politics. Realistically as with all similar high stress authoritarian occupations being around admin and teachers can be difficult and makes a usual low involvement approach a general safe go to approach for parents though events were generally pleasant. The usual Australian school depression was extreme on a few occasions. Such depression is often associated with obesity, alcoholism, bullying etc.
They don't effectively teach children to return books and their fines could be a thoughtless legacy. There wasn't much about school safety which is the day to day situation for children. i.e. interacting with a full spectrum of initially unknown children for most of the day. Particularly relevant when chucking rocks at each other, dirt smashes are local favourites. Check relevance & options re any signing away usual useful rights through codes of conduct.
