Depressing School Environment

When starting at St Mary’s in year 7, the school community and the learning was great. The teachers were passionate about what they were teaching and the school had its own little things that made it different from other schools. Now that I’m in grade 12, the whole school environment has declined significantly. The school has removed a lot of the the artworks made by former students, they spent an extensive amount of money on new buildings but have yet to renovate the old classrooms, the assignments give to us feel messy and rushed, and the range of different subjects are very limited compared to state schools and other private schools around the district. The year 12’s this year have been handed a very sad senior year. The senior shirts do not have the year nor the last names of ourselves or our fellow peers. The senior parking lot is shared with teachers, and the restrictions on the students have become more intense than previous years. Students are no longer allowed to use their phones to pay for tuck or uniforms. Male students are not allowed to have a ‘fade’ haircut or a mullet, female students back in year 9 caught with makeup on would even be forced to remove it with makeup wipes at school. The school in general has just lost its spirit and only cares about money and their reputation, failing to see struggling students and pushing them to the side to make room for the successful ones. The school makes students think that getting a good ATAR is the only way to succeed in life, giving minimal support to students choosing to do QCE or VET. I honestly just cannot wait to leave this school and never return. It is a depressing and stressful environment and has ruined my senior year.
