Warilla high school needs a change

After the previous principal the school has taken a large turn and the teacher and students do not want the to be at the school learning/ teaching. It is now a bad environment for students and teachers. To improve this school it will require a lot of work and they will need to get better facilities change principle and get teachers that want to teach

Don’t send your kid here.

I went here until year 11 and it was one of the worse places to be. It gave me extreme anxiety and depressions, my friend at the time got beat up for being gay and the teachers and principals did nothing, they do nothing against bullying and it’s so hard to learn in class cuz it’s rare for a teacher to know how to control the class. The people there are awful and disgusting. The only good thing about this school was a few of the teachers

Opinion on Warilla from a senior student

I am a senior student currently enrolled at Warilla High School in 2023.

a lot of teachers are quite average and do the absolute bare minimum when it comes to teaching the syllabus that's supposed to set us up for the HSC. they expect us to teach ourselves while they put up a PowerPoint they didn't even make themselves.

majority of the students are okay but there are quite a few students, especially year 7's and 9's are out of control. the year 7's currently have this mob mentality walking around in massive groups picking fights with their year and even older years. there's been close to nothing done about this as they are still walking around like a mob. The year 9's have been the cause for the majority of the major fights nearly every second day and even made the school go into lockdown as the fight got too out of hand.

When our former principal retired in 2019, One of the deputies took over as principal, she shouldn't have this position. She has tarnished the school's reputation as she cannot control her students and does not enforce the rules she sets for herself. She preaches that our school is smoke-free yet she goes out to her car at least three times to have a smoke break and even leaves the premises to have a smoke. she is barely at the assemblies she makes and when she does come she calls everyone folks. From former students' experience, she is also extremely biased towards certain people and makes it quite difficult for the people she does not like even if they are good students.
the deputies aren't bad necessarily but there are improvements that need to happen such as enforcing the rules they set instead of brushing them off because they don't want to deal with it at that moment, especially the phone rule. other than that they are very good at keeping up with the demands of the students.

the education is average but as I said the teachers expect us to learn just off random PowerPoints and worksheets they majority of the time don't make themselves.

overall the school isn't bad but there need to be major improvements in how the principal runs this school or should retire from her position.

Personal opinion

I’m in year 11 in 2023. The school is genuinely pretty decent when following the required syllabus yet it’s the pupils and some students which remove the high markings compared to general standards.
There are many students here who we call ‘junkies’ and ‘eshays’ that proceed to : fight , smoke weed , vape , bully and disobey any rule you give them. A common thing is what I just mentioned, Vaping. Also called ESmoking. MANY students smoke at school whether it’s in class trying to hide it from the teacher , in the playground , out the front of the school and a very popular area, the bathrooms.
Let me move onto some of the teachers , majority of the staff are very friendly and overall great people and educators. Yet , the principal of this school shouldn’t have her position. From experiences from people she used to teach she loved the drama and picking on certain students purely because they weren’t her standard, even if the students are great. She smokes in her car at the parking lot, can’t draw the attention of the majority of the students. She doesn’t display the key priorities to have her position at all. Many students and even some teachers can agree.
The population of the school is substantially high and feels very overcrowded. Approximately over 1200 students are fitted into around 30 classroom for 4 block areas. There should be be 24 students max in a senior class and 25-30 max for a junior class. keep in mind the classrooms aren’t very large let alone taking into account how narrow the hallways are.

Overall Warilla is an even 50/50 balance for a public school yet there could be a few improvements.
